The 2012 20th Anniversary Cricketers Ball
What a great night it was to showcase our fine Club.
It was brilliant to see such a good turnout of our Club members with everyone dressing up in their best & finest to make it a special occasion. The venue did us all proud and there has been nothing but positive feedback from the night. It all came to be from the enthusiasm of some of our more recent members – Andy Scott, Ben Cooper and Royce McDonald after a Ball hiatus of 4 years. They kicked the rest of your Executive Committee into action and the rest is now history as far as the Cricketers Ball 2012 is concerned. We have never sold ball tickets as fast as this and there was never any concern in meeting the minimum numbers – and high expectations - from Andy S, our highly efficient Ball organising leader. It takes a great deal of effort, work and many hundreds of emails to make the Ball as good as it is and it was an all-round top team effort from your Executive Committee and added Ball volunteers to pull this off. The HKCC didn’t let us down in any way either and provided for us a great venue, good food and a wonderful and friendly service. Ball goers were met by a glass of sparkly and were soon enjoying the HKCC’s balcony on a nice cool evening to enjoy the views. Monty did a wonderful job of MC-ing the night and I don’t remember him once saying “without further ado”. As well as the night’s main entertainment from Mr. Happy (where on earth did they get that name from?!), we were entertained by our very own Andy Fullard with a little help from an orange toga clad Jess, and I seem to remember late in the evening a rap from our own rapper king, Ben Cooper. It was good to see our former League Captain, Ian Beck and his new wife, Chaka, who had flown in from Oz especially for the Ball and be presented with an unusual wedding cake baked by Andy Fullard’s new wife, Meg. The raffle & auction went better than we could have imagined and we would like to thank prize donors Monty, Sideways Racing, Royce, Neil, Brad, Andy S., Ali and Alex as well as the Banyan Tree & Island Bar on Lamma. Thank you very much! This has been a major fund raiser for our Club and the Committee will decide later on how best to use these funds to benefit as much of our Club & membership as possible. Here's hoping the next Ball will be as successful - whenever and wherever that may be - but let's not think about that just yet, we're still getting over this one. |
