Captain Adrian's End of Season 2015-16 League Report
Chaps,
In summary, the 2015/16 season has to go down as a success. Our main objective at the start of the season was to make the top 5 and therefore play for promotion. We achieved this goal relatively comfortably. Please disregard our final league position as it does not seem right that teams who finished in the bottom half of the league (after the first part of the season) can then move above us by beating weaker opposition.
Our other two objectives were (1) to reduce the average number of wides we bowled and (2) take a higher percentage of catches. Our average number of wides (excluding no balls) last season was 19. This season we have reduced that significantly to 12 wides on average per match. Still room for improvement but well done the bowlers. There has also been a marked improvement in the number of catches being taken (it can be no coincidence that we have been working on catching with Scott on Wednesday nights). Catches of note include Becks one handed catch running backwards against USRC, Royce holding onto a swirling high catch in our first game against USRC and Benny taking two blinding slip catches against Pioneers.
Special mention must go to Brenton, Benny, Royce and Woodsy for a tremendous effort this season. To have four bowlers in the Saturday Championship top 20 is a great achievement.
Batting wise, as a unit, we have unfortunately fallen slightly below par. To have three batsman (completed over 5 innings) averaging 24 or above is slightly disappointing. Special mention must go to Brad (averaging 34.2) and Becks for getting the innings off to some flying starts. One of our objectives next season, will be to place a higher value on our wickets. As a team we lose too many wickets by being bowled (42% of our wickets lost are bowled - average in cricket should be around 20%).
For me, our stand out performance of the season was beating USRC pretty comfortably and then running them very close in the second game. That is the intensity we need to play at game in game out next season.
As I mentioned in my last email, there is a recognition in the club that we need a greater pool of players to select from next season. Social games have been cancelled due to a lack of numbers and league teams have been selected from 12 players on two occasions. Therefore, please spread the word that Lamma CC are interested in new recruits (no guarantee they will be offered membership but they are welcome to attend the trials).
Enjoy the off season and I look forward to seeing you all raring to go at the start of next season.

Looking forward to 2015
Dear All,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all. I hope you're having a good holiday season and are not suffering too badly from carb-loading excesses...
We're at the back of 2014 and in some ways that's not a bad thing, especially looking at our on field results where there's room for (and recent signs of) improvement!
However, looking back over the year its been a good year for the club as a whole, and I'll pick out a few highlights.
In February we had another fantastic Lamma CC Ball at HKCC with a memorable Valentines theme which not only was a big night out but raised a good sum for the club and effectively paid for our end of season club tour to Chiang Mai which took place in May when a tour group of 17 members and supporters played 2 matches over a weekend in picturesque surroundings versus Lanna CC.
Our player base has increased with the recruitment of several new players to the club over the summer, welcome again if this means you, and lowered the average player age by a couple of notches in the process (though I still see further room for improvement!).
September saw LCC members dodging the tear gas by making the club's first junk trip to Lantau on a glorious day for beach cricket and lunch at the Stoop.
October saw a Lamma team again participate in the Thailand Sixes in Bangkok before being poured onto the plane back to HK.
We also have continued been fortunate to continue to have nets at the world class indoor practice facilities at HKCC. The availability of such facilities to practice really is great for our playing members, most teams do not have such luck and we should make the most of it.
A few weeks ago the Christmas lunch hosted at Tarry Towers was a big hit and well attended by league and social members.
Another big plus I believe is the strong Executive Committee the Club has, with some very capable and active people involved and my thanks to them for their continued activities and contributions to support the club.
This positive activity includes the signing of the largest sponsorship deal in the Club's history recently with Mat Davies' company Mann Made Group in a 2 year deal. Further information about this arrangement and a formal announcement etc will be made in the new year.
Another positive this year has been the adoption of this TeamSnap website thingy which seems really handy for managing club info, organisation, subs etc.
Challenges for Lamma CC in 2015 I believe will include improving the on field results for our League team and developing the social team match schedule in the face of increasing ground availability issues.
In the pipeline already for the new year are a Chiang Mai tour in February, the Lamma Ball 2015, a "Sydney Chapter" of Lamma CC is being seriously discussed by the several ex Lamma players down there, and a new "Lamma Cricket Festival" for players, family and friends to participate in is also being worked on.
Much to look forward to, much to be happy about, but much to do!
In the meantime I wish you a very happy, prosperous and healthy new year 2015!
All the best.
Goooooo Lamma!!
Cheers,
Monty
